Stocks Close Higher Again Tuesday
Investors were in a buying mood for a second day Tuesday, sending stocks higher.

NEW YORK (October 6, 2009)--Investors barreled into stocks for a second day as hopes grew that corporate profits will strengthen as the global economy recovers.

Stocks jumped Tuesday, as Australia became the first major country to raise interest rates, fanning hopes that other economies are also strengthening.

Investors are also anticipating good news from earnings reports for the July-September quarter, which begin arriving this week.

The Dow Jones industrials were up 132 at 9,731.

The Dow is up 244 points in two days.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index was up 14 at 1,054.

The Nasdaq composite index was up 35 at 2,103.

Four stocks rose for every one that fell on the New York Stock Exchange.

Volume totaled 1.2 billion compared with 1.1 billion Monday.
