China Seeks Cash, Supplies Save Email Print

(May 16, 2008)--The Chinese Embassy is encouraging Americans and others to send cash and supplies to victims of this week's powerful earthquake, but the embassy says it doesn't need any U.S. disaster relief teams.

Embassy spokesman Wang Baodong said Friday that China has accepted disaster experts from Japan, Russia and South Korea because of their proximity to China.

Wang says victims need food, water, tents, tools and medical supplies.

He says the Chinese and U.S. governments are in constant contact on relief efforts.

He says saving lives is China's first priority and rejects any link between China's response to the disaster and the attention Beijing is receiving because of the Summer Olympics in August.
