Investigators Dig Up Backyard In Search Of Missing 2-Year-Old Save Email Print

A | A | A

(July 18, 2008)—Investigators were digging Friday in the backyard of the home of the grandmother of a 2-year-old Florida girl who’s been missing for more than a month.

Caylee Marie Anthony disappeared on June 9.

That’s when her mother, Casey Marie Anthony, 22, told Orange County, Fla. authorities she dropped the toddler off with a friend with whom she says she has since lost contact.

She didn’t report that the toddler was missing until earlier this week.

It’s unclear why she waited so long to call police.

A neighbor told investigators on Thursday that the toddler’s mother had borrowed a shovel from her about a month ago.

Police arrested Anthony Thursday for child neglect and providing false information to law enforcement officers.

She was ordered held without bond.

Why did she wait so long to contact the police? If my child was missing more than a few minutes I would be on the phone with somebody and definately freaking out. If something did happen to this child I don't see how a mom could do something like that. People that do crimes like this need to be behind bars and the key thrown away.
