(July 30, 2008)—A court appearance is scheduled Wednesday for a Fort Bragg soldier who’s charged in the murder of a pregnant fellow soldier whose body was found in a motel bathtub.
Edgar Patino, 27, is charged in the death Spc. Megan Touma, 23, who disappeared last month and who was later found dead.
She was seven months pregnant.
So far, authorities haven't said how she died or discussed a motive for the killing.
Authorities had said a soldier studying psychological warfare at Fort Bragg was a person of interest in the case, but it’s unclear if police were referring to Patino.
During a news conference Wednesday, Fayetteville, N.C. Police Chief Tom Bergamine said Patino admitted fathering Touma's unborn baby.
Police also said Patino acknowledged being in Touma's hotel room June 13, the last day her hotel room key was used.
Police also say Patino purchased a typewriter the day before a letter was sent to The Fayetteville Observer from a person who claimed to be a serial killer responsible for Touma's death.
