(July 30, 2008)--An armored van guard was in the hospital after being shot several times in an attempted robbery Wednesday outside a bank in suburban West Palm Beach, Fla.
A sheriff's spokeswoman said the armored van pulled up Wednesday morning outside a Wachovia Bank branch to refill an automatic teller machine when several robbers armed with handguns and an assault rifle approached.
Authorities say shots were exchanged and one of the guards was hit by gunfire.
His condition was not immediately available.
Sheriff's officials say one suspect was captured after the shooting, but they are seeking several others who escaped.
It’s not clear whether any of the robbers were hit in the exchange of gunfire.
