Weather Could Give Fire Crews A Break Save Email Print

(July 30, 2008)--Forecasters say firefighters who are battling a huge wildfire near Yosemite National Park can expect to get some relief from the torrid conditions Wednesday.

The National Weather Service forecasts a slight drop in temperatures, accompanied by low humidity and light winds.

Temperatures should remain in the high 80s.

The fire, raging just 12 miles outside the park, has destroyed 25 homes and is only 20 percent contained.

Authorities say the fire has charred more than 50 square miles of steep, rugged terrain since a target shooter sparked the wildfire on Friday.

In all, more than 2,000 blazes have scorched about 1,700 square miles around California this year, mostly on national forest land.
