Bush Declares Progress In Iraq War Save Email Print

A | A | A

(July 31, 2008)—President Bush is declaring progress in the Iraq war, saying terrorists "are on the run" and that further troop reductions should be coming.

Bush also announced that effective Friday, the duration of troop tours in Iraq will be cut from 15 months to 12 months. He says it'll lift some of the burden put on the troops, and "make life easier" for military families.

Thursday's announcement will affect members of the Fourth Infantry Division, which deployed late last year over a course of several weeks.

Bush went on to caution that some of the progress being made in Iraq could still be reversed.

Thursday was the deadline the administration and Iraqi leaders had set for themselves to reach a deal for when the U.N. mandate runs out in December. Bush says work is continuing toward a strategic framework agreement with the Iraqi government.

Still, the toughest decisions concerning that will likely fall to the next president.

Oh-Kay...I was just curious by your name? "El Diablo." My husband is in 2-12 CAV..the "Diablos," currently stationed in Iraq! Thought it was ironic...

It wasn't that many years ago that Bush was declaring VICTORY in Iraq. The Iraqi government is making a killing off of oil sales and we're paying $4 a gallon and American blood. Am I in Iraq? No, I'm in Hell.

The American people found out the hard way that you can't wuss your way to victory in Iraq. We hung the only guy who could control that country, and we've learned hard lessons about why he was so brutal. Chalk up another one for the Blunderer In Chief.

The Iraqi people found out the hard way that they are better off with American troops than the terrorists.

Really??? And how much is a gallon of gas today Mr. President?? Who writes this stuff for him to read, Mickey Mouse.... As far as the evil one, I do NOT trust a person that does not have empathy for wounded soldiers and does not like animals. But, that is MY opinion, and dont hate me for it. If you do, you are falling in to the trap of hate our country is headed for.

I'm not a fan of Obama or McCain. But Bush has done more to tarnish the American reputation than any president in history. God help us, because our political system sure ain't gonna.

This is a shame! How are you going to start a war without any victory?!! The Patriot is right, they are moving in on the US and will probably be running this country by the time our next president is elected. It should've been Hilary for president! She is the only one that can save this world, and yet nobody has a clue as to why. This world is coming to an end and fast.

They're waiting to see if the O-Bots will get their messiah in the whitehouse, then enemy is headed HERE.

Sorry to burst your bubble, mr. president, but the reason violence has dropped in Iraq is because most of the enemy have moved to Afghanistan or went into hiding until the latest surge subsides. What a dope!
