Pelosi Pushes Chet In Dem Veepstakes Save Email Print

A | A | A

(August 4, 2008)—For the second time this summer, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has backed Congressman Chet Edwards as the running mate for presumptive Democrat presidential nominee Barack Obama.

While appearing on ABC's "This Week," Pelosi said she thinks Edwards should be Barack Obama's running mate.

In late June, Pelosi first told Newsweek in a video interview that Congressman Edwards should be included in the mix of potential running mates.

The nine-term congressman said he would take the job, if offered.

In a newspaper interview with the Bryan-College Station Eagle in July, Edwards said, “it is a privilege just to be mentioned.”

Pelosi said that amid all the talk about possible running mates from the Senate, she didn't want the House to be left out. Obama has not announced when he will make his pick.

Who does Pelosi think she is? The boss? That is one woman who gets on my last nerve and I bet that goes for most of us.

Any vote for a Democrat is a vote for Nancy "Stretch" Pelosi What a waste!

Poor ole Gerald in Ft. Hood and Mac. They must have problems walking with two right feet. They are the typical Republican, runs down the opposition but doesn't say what his man has to say on solving our problems. Probably because your man is too much like Bush and his cronies. In the last 7 1/2 years, Bush has really screwed up our nation financially and with our (former) allies. Our dollar has dropped in value over the last several years and we owe China and Saudia Arabia a fortune. Hopefully they won't call in those loans or we will be speaking Chinese and practicing Islam.

Mac, maybe when YOU become better educated, your grammar and punctuation will improve. Then, maybe your quality of thought will follow.

If Pelosi, is for it, than has to be wrong. Her ideology of America is off the scale. She curses everthing that our country stands for and uses sound bites as answers. One thing is for sure, it will take more than these self center liberals that prefer socialism,(government own), over capitalism,(private own) to change America! Thats right, taking from one giving to another,(socialism), instead of,(capitalism), earning what you reap! If you have two automobiles and your neighbor has none, they believe,(liberals), you must give up one to your neighbor for the good of society. Even if your neighbor does not work or even if they are here illegal. So, go ahead and back good old Chet & Pelosi, and watch his views & votes change quickly. Voting out of stupidity is ripping our country apart. Most people who are democrats, don't even know they have conservative views. They just vote liberal out of mis-informed liberal media. I strongly believe as times get harder, Americans will become educated.

Pelosi pushes..........how appropriate. Dont like her, wouldnt vote for a person she endorses. Sorry Chet.

CNN already had a similar story on their blog. The general consensus of Democrats nationwide who responded was: "Chet who???" "Who???" "Who is this guy Pelosi keeps pushing??" Nobody outside of Texas seems to know or care about Chet Edwards. Go ahead and pick a nobody, Obama.

Chet's idea of bipartisanship is for Republicans to compromise on everything. Has Chet spoken up for oil drilling like over 70% of American citizens want? Of course not. He's a democrat. All democrats do is demagogue and obstruct. Chet would not be good for this country, and Obama would be a Jimmy Carteresque disaster.

Scary. Very scary.

Posted by: Stephanie Location: Waco on Aug 6, 2008 at 12:16 AM
Chet Edwards would be very complimentary to Senator Obama because Edwards has 18 year record of bipartisan accomplishment -- something essential to realizing Obama's vision for America. His work in Congress to strengthen national security, pass record funding increases for veterans’ health care and benefits, and solve problems facing everyday working families has helped him win re-election in George Bush's home district.

Rep. Edwards is a good guy and a great congressman. I don't care much for the two clowns running for president, but we're stuck with one of them. We could do (and ARE doing) a lot worse than Edwards as VP.

Posted by: Kyndra Location: College Station on Aug 5, 2008 at 04:46 PM
Chet is a great guy that has done a lot for our veterans. I would vote for him if he were running for President or on the Obama ticket!

Posted by: Gerald Location: Fort Hood on Aug 5, 2008 at 11:34 AM
To call Obama "left of center" and Chet Edwards "right of center" is laughable. Obama is the most liberal senator in Congress, and Chet Edwards is very liberal in his own right. He doesn't have a "right of center" bone in his body.

Posted by: The Patriot Location: Texas on Aug 5, 2008 at 08:53 AM
You mean Sweepstakes. Fuhrer Pelosi is after the prize, "Republican Based Texas". Think about it ... why would Mr. Chet Vet want to be the VP to a man who refuses to visit our wounded soldiers, much less shake a soldier's hand? I questioned Chet's motives after he endorsed Obama so early in the democrat race.

Posted by: Gerald Location: Fort Hood on Aug 5, 2008 at 08:34 AM
Chet Edwards is very liberal, and Obama is rated the most liberal senator in Congress. Neither of these men would be good for the country.

Posted by: Mike Location: Waco on Aug 5, 2008 at 07:50 AM
Wow. Can it really get any worse. Obama and Edwards. Just when you thought it couldnt get it worse. I wouldnt give either of them a glass of water in the Heat of the day. I'd vote for Ross Perot before of these two clowns.

Posted by: TEXASLEGAL on Aug 5, 2008 at 06:59 AM
You are so right MelP. Just because a politician can bring home the pork does not make him a good person. If we cut out the pork that these idiots get, most of them would be out of a job?? It's all about the money, not the person doing the job.

Posted by: MelP Location: Waco on Aug 4, 2008 at 09:33 PM
Anyone who accepts Nancy Pelosi's endorsement is NOT getting my vote. The fact that she thinks highly of Congressman Edwards tells me all I need to know about him. If he is in Washington acting in a way that pleases her, he is not representing my views and values.

Posted by: Terry Location: Waco on Aug 4, 2008 at 06:05 PM
The democrats need to quit pandering to Obama and get their arses back to Wash and fix this oil mess!

Posted by: News Watcher Location: Waco on Aug 4, 2008 at 05:25 PM
"Doesn't Matter from Temple" has a good question. But the way I look at it is the Democratic Party covers a wider spectrum of political beliefs (more that the Republicans). Obama leans more left of center and having Edwards, who leans more to the right of center (center being a moderate), would pull more Democrats together. I hate losing Edwards support of Central Texas and the Armed Services in Congress, but hopefully, he will be more helpful to our country as VP.

Posted by: Robert Location: I on Aug 4, 2008 at 05:02 PM
How about McCains Running mate?

Posted by: Doesn't Matter Location: Temple on Aug 4, 2008 at 03:33 PM
So Bob & Sharon, what if Mr. Edwards did run for president but picked Obama as his running mate, what then? Would he still get your vote? Let's take a look at what we are really saying...if he's willing to run as VP alongside Obama, they must share some of the same ideas, if not, why would he consider it if asked? What's really going on here...shouldn't you reconsider whether he's got the right motives (good of the American people) or is it a career move? I personally don't have an opinion one way or another regarding any candidate at this point but I believe that we should be firm on our choices and why we choose. This is why the party is not united

If that don't convince you that Chet is a "bad egg' nothing will! Nancy Pelosi? Yikes!

Posted by: Bob Location: Belton on Aug 4, 2008 at 11:21 AM
I agree, Chet Edwards has done a lot for Central Texas and for Fort Hood. He needs to be more careful about about letting his name be used my Nancy Pelosi. She is one of the biggest liberals and cheats in D.C. If Mr. Edwards would have ran for President he would have gotten my vote, but I agree, if he runs with Obama he will not get my vote.

Posted by: Sharon Location: Hamilton on Aug 4, 2008 at 09:34 AM
Chet Edwards should have run for president. He has done lots of good and I believe he truly has his heart for the American people in the right direction. But I will not vote for him if he runs with Obama.
