College Professor Leaves Infant In Minivan Save Email Print

A | A | A

(August 21, 2008)—Police aren’t saying whether a Cincinnati Christian University professor and counselor will be charged in the death of her infant daughter, who was left in a minivan for eight hours.

Dr. Jodie Edwards left the infant in the minivan Wednesday morning, police said.

School officials say a change in the family’s childcare routine may be the reason the infant was left in the vehicle.

Edwards is a professor in the university’s counseling department and has taught mostly graduate students for two years.

Accidents my foot!!!! Can you say a convienent way for MURDER, since there is no penalty for it. Oh lets just leave our kid in the car when its 90-100 degrees outside. Great way to get rid of a kid that you probably didnt want in the first place. you know they do have methods to prevent that.. it's called BIRTH CONTROL or even better yet Abstinance. If you dont want kids dont have sex.. and if you do happen to get pregnant there is adoption I know alot of wonderful parents that would love one but can't have one.

Here we go again! What in the Sam Hill is wrong with people? C you have an interesting thought, billboards reminding you to check your back seats. How about an alarm built into the car seat somehow rigged to the cars engine vibes, if the engine is off for say 15 seconds & anything weighing more than 3.0 lbs in the car seat would set off a loud alarm & wont stop until the passenger "doors" are opened making sure someone looks in the back of vehicles containing children. Im no genius but there is my idea, somebody please come up with a better one or market this one. Save some babys, remind some absent minded adults. If the driver manages to get out of ear shot of all the noise made by the alarm, it would surely draw attention before another baby dies.

i still say there is no excuse for forgetting a child in a car. this is just bull hockey. people hello wake up when you are in charge of kids. i mean honestly if you love your child how can you ever forget about it.

Just because their routine was changed makes it okay for this to have happened. I am constantly checking on my 3 year old in the backseat because accidents can happen anywhere. I can not even imagine what all these poor children were going through during their last minutes. To suffocate to death; burned alive. Think about it, this wasn't an easy death. My husband was nearly burned to death this past year and he still can't touch certain things certain ways. Could you imagine this happening to a child because of a parent who obviously doesn't need to be having children in her care. This just bewilders me as to how many careless parents there are in the world. There are so many people that can't have children that deserve to have them and would be awesome parents. Give your child to them if you can't take care of them properly. I pray that other families start paying attention to their children and stop doing such careless acts.

How can charges not be brought up against her? She forgot that her child was in the car! How Bizarre! My prayers and thoughts go out to the child.

Im sorry but what is so damn important that you FORGET your child in the car??? I have 2 boys and 3 step children and there is no way I would be able to forget any of them in the car. Even when they were infants sleeping in the back seat i always remembered they were there. There is no excuse for such behavoir. It is our responibility as parents to make sure that our children are safe and sound.

This is going to continue to happen as long as the public and the police consider these incidents as "accidents"

OMG!Here we go again, it seems now every time i turn on my computer to read the news headlines, someone has left a child in a vehicle all day to face an unbearable death. Come on people wake up and concentrate on more than trying to get to a job, or whatever is taking your focus from the little ones that are being left to die in hot vehicles. This is happeing way too much, need some billboards, or some type of public awareness info. to go out. May this little one rest in peace

What the h*ll is wrong with these people to be so consumed in their work to forget your child in the car?

Posted by: Sandra Location: Temple on Aug 21, 2008 at 04:50 PM
We are hearing entirely too many stories like this where children die because of adults' stupidity. As a parent, you are supposed to look out for your child, the child's safety should be top priority. It seems too many parents have priorities other than their children. A mama dog protects her babies better than some people do theirs.
