Local Congressman Speaks At DNC Save Email Print

A | A | A

(August 28, 2008)—Thursday is the final night of the democratic national convention in denver.

After a surprise appearance Wednesday night, Barak Obama will be back on the stage Thursday night to formally accept his party's nomination.

Obama shared the stage Wednesday night with his selected running mate, Joe Biden, and the man who almost became his running mate, local congressman Chet Edwards.

Congressman Edwards talked about the need to not only take care of current and future veterans and their families.

Edwards took aim at Senator John McCain, pointing out how the presumed GOP nominee has received failing grades from some of the nation's most respected veteran's organizations.

”[McCain] has repeatedly voted against health care funding and benefits for his fellow veterans…if elected, his plan could lead to the rationing of veterans' health care. The fact is, our veterans can't afford more of the same from John McCain.”

In the end, his speech was about pushing forwards the democratic candidate, Barack Obama.

Edwards endorsed Senator Obama for president earlier this year and has been mentioned for a possible cabinet position if Obama is elected, the Texas congressman has denied such rumors.
