New Orleans Prepares For Evacuation Save Email Print

A | A | A

(August 28, 2008)—Residents of cities all along the Gulf Coast are hoping that what'll again be Hurricane Gustav won't bear a resemblance to Hurricane Katrina, but with the third anniversary of Katrina looming, they're also not taking any chances.

Katrina struck three years ago Friday.

In Louisiana, National Guard troops are standing by while batteries and water bottles are selling briskly in stores from south Texas to Florida's panhandle.

Forecasters say Gustav could make landfall anywhere along that span as a major hurricane near the end of Labor Day weekend.

In New Orleans, officials are laying preliminary plans to evacuate and lock down the city in hopes of avoiding the catastrophe that followed Hurricane Katrina.

They're also warning there won't be a massive shelter at the Superdome this time.

Instead, the state has arranged for buses and trains to take about 30,000 people to safety. Nearly 8,000 people are already signed up for transportation help.

Gov. Perry acts like he is Gov. for LA! Has he ever ask the people of Texas, how they feel. I know Texas citzens got it broke off in them three years ago. Do not want any LA citizens, thugs, thieves, rapist, etc. relocated here in Texas!

I agree with Me: Location: Central Texas. Killeen hasn't been the same since Katrina Evacuee's came here, I have meet a few nice people out of a 100. They all seem to be trouble makers and they act like the residents of Texas owes them something because their city was washed away in the Hurricane. I think that they all should be more grateful for what God has given them. The crime rate has went up tremendously here because of them. Not taking light of the situation but they need to get over the hurricane and get off their butts, get jobs, stop stealing other peoples property. We work hard to support our families and we are tired of you all stealing from us.
