Gulf Coast Hospitals Brace For Gustav Save Email Print

A | A | A

(August 29, 2008)--Hospitals in New Orleans and elsewhere along the Gulf Coast don't want a repeat of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, so hospital officials are making emergency plans as Hurricane Gustav drifts toward the U.S.

They have canceled elective surgery, stocked up on food and other supplies, and the most fragile patients are being moved.

At least 140 patients died in hospitals and nursing homes after Katrina made landfall three years ago.
