Slain Soldier’s Parents Fear Son Was Tortured Save Email Print

(October 6 2008)—The parents of slain Army Spc. Byron Wayne Fouty, who was abducted and slain by militants in Iraq, fear the captors held their son for as long as four months and tortured him throughout that period.

When the autopsy results arrived a month ago, there was a word of caution for his mother, Hilary Meunier, who lives with her husband just outside of San Antonio.

The military medical examiner warned her that she should have people who care for her with her when she read the document.

The one-page autopsy report and its four-page supplement offer clues that the 19-year-old may have been beaten and dismembered before he and 25-year-old Staff Sgt, Alex R. Jimenez of Massachusetts were killed and buried in a shallow grave.

The report's last page said that Fouty's nose had been broken but had "well healed prior to death."

The report also described foot bones that were detached from commingled remains of Fouty and Jimenez, and finger bones that were wrapped in a blanket.

Part of a pair of handcuffs was found, as well.

Fouty and Jimenez were kidnapped after their convoy was ambushed south of Baghdad in May 2007.

Their families were told in July that the bodies of the two soldiers had been found and identified.

Fouty's remains were buried July 25 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.

Pfc. Joseph J. Anzack, Jr., 20, of Torrance, Calif. was killed in the convoy ambush.

Jimenez and Fouty were assigned to the 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), from Fort Drum, N.Y.

God bless this family! I have a son in the military and can only imagine what this family, mother is going thru. And not only are they dealing with their beloved sons death, now they find out that he was possibly tortured! OMG this is horrible, they are in my prayers! Im praying that they take comfort in knowing that their son now rests in the arms of Jesus. I pray that all soldiers go to Heaven, because they sure go thru Hell here on Earth.
