CHICAGO (March 1, 2009)--Legendary broadcaster, Paul Harvey has passed away, according to the head of ABC Radio Network.

Harvey died with family members by his side at a hospital near his winter home in Phoenix, Ariz.

He was 90.

Harvey was known for his deep voice and illustrative storytelling on "News and Comment" and "The Rest of the Story."

Former President George W. Bush says Harvey's commentary "entertained, enlightened, and informed."

Bush remembered Harvey as a "friendly and familiar voice in the lives of millions of Americans."

Bush said he and his wife, Laura's thoughts and prayers are with the family.

Harvey, the news commentator and talk-radio pioneer whose staccato style made him one of the nation's most familiar voices, was active past his 90th birthday and worked for ABC for more than 50 years.

His death came less than a year after that of his wife and longtime producer, Lynne.

His son, Paul Harvey, Jr. said of his parents, "an industry has lost its godparents and today millions have lost a friend."
