RADFORD, Va. (April 3, 2009)--Radford University officials put the campus on lockdown and told students to keep their doors locked as police searched for a man suspected of shooting someone near the campus.

Radford Police Chief Don Goodman said the fatal shooting happened around 9 p.m. Thursday.

The victim hasn't been identified.

The university said in an e-mail that the suspect was seen near the school's Bonnie Hurlbert Student Center.

Police have set up checkpoints and a command center, and SWAT teams will be sweeping academic buildings on campus as they search for the suspect.

University police and Radford police are on scene.

The man, who was wearing no shirt, a camouflaged jacket, and do-rag, was considered armed and dangerous.

The campus reopened Friday.
