LAUDERDALE-BY-THE-SEA, Fla. (May 2, 2009)--An Italian woman has died and her 4-year-old grandson is in critical condition after a hyberbaric chamber exploded at a South Florida clinic.
The Broward Sheriff's Office says Vincenza Pesce, 62, died early Saturday, a day after a blast caused a flash fire inside the chamber.
She was holding her grandson, Franchesco Martinizi, during the blast.
He was being treated for a medical condition, but authorities didn't immediately say what was wrong with him.
Sheriff's spokesman Mike Jachles says Pesce was holding the boy to comfort him.
Hyperbaric chambers are filled with 100 percent oxygen and can be used to treat diving injuries and other wounds.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the blast.

To Seriously?? Location;Temple Have you ever been around or near a Hyperbaric Chamber, or do you even know how one works? The oxygen that is used in one might have accidentally exploded, but the chamber itself did not explode(when in use they put the patient inside it, fill it with oxygen, then pull a suction on it(de-compression). Thats why I said we do not have a correct report on this. The chamber itself can not explode even when in use, unless an ignition /spark is produced. And she would not be holding her grand-son in her lap. Thanks anyhow.
Someone--I think they are saying that they were sitting near the chamber when it exploded, not that they were in it. But I could be wrong.
This is a great way to cure people that have had Strokes or Siezures or have blood problems also. But it is very dangerious too. And I don't understand being inside the chamber holding a grand-child(don't think this report is correct).
