WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama is lauding the
barrier-breaking confirmation of Sonia Sotomayor to be the first
Hispanic justice on the Supreme Court.
Said the president: "With this historic vote, the Senate has
affirmed that Justice Sotomayor has the intellect, the temperament,
the history, the integrity and the independence of mind to ably
serve on our nation's highest court."
She replaces retiring Justice David Souter.
Sotomayor will be sworn in as the 111th justice of the Supreme Court on Saturday, with Chief Justice John Roberts administering two oaths of office.
She will appear on Wednesday with the President at the White House.
The 55-year-old Sotomayor will repeat one oath as prescribed by
the Constitution in a private ceremony at the high court at 11 a.m.
It will be open only to members of Sotomayor's family.
Then, Roberts will administer a second oath, taken by judges, with the new justice's family and friends, and reporters present.
Spokeswoman Kathy Arberg said the ceremony apparently will be
the first one open to television cameras in the court's history.
The vote was 68-31 for Sotomayor, President Barack Obama's first high court nominee.
Obama spoke moments after the Senate confirmed Sotomayor
on Thursday.
The president called the occasion a wonderful moment for
Sotomayor's family - and for America.

To just here:Location:Waco. Sotomayor was born/raised in the Bronx, NY. by Puerto Rican Parents, so you need to do your research. And I still stick to what I said about Mexican uprisings to go along with the blacks, and Sotomayor is strongly racially biased!! And Puerto Rico is 'not' in the United States(never has been)!!!
OK PEOPLE YOU VOTED FOR CHANGE!!!! SO HOW DO YOU LIKE YOUR CHANGE NOW????
I find it amusing that the liberals are STILL out there lieing about her. They claim she's the best thing to happen since sliced bread! That may be true for liberals who consistantly try their best to destroy freedom and trash the Constitution. So from their perspective, yeah, I guess she is a great choice. From the eyesight of someone, like me, who believes in personal freedom and responsibility, believes that the Constitution says what it means (a 3rd grader can read and understand it), and we don't need the "affirmative action" (read reverse racism here) laws...she is a disaster. She hates anything that hinders government, increases freedom, and allows the great mass of American citizens (read PEONS here) to control their own lives! She has consistantly ruled against freedom, gun ownership, and limited government. OF COURSE Obama and liberals think she's great! The time is getting near for those PEONS the liberals hate to start fighting back. I'm ready now....
