CAROLINA BEACH, N.C. (August 29, 2009)--The U.S. Coast Guard and local authorities in North Carolina have spent hours searching off the Outer Banks for a 12-year-old boy who disappeared while bodysurfing.
The boy's mother reported seeing him go underwater and the board washing ashore without him.
For the second straight weekend, there’s choppy surf along the East Coast, this time from the Carolinas to New England, produced by Tropical Storm Danny.
Forecasters say Danny is centered about 190 miles south of Cape Hatteras and moving north near 17 mph.
Reports from a reconnaissance plane indicated that Danny was being absorbed by a frontal low over North Carolina.
A tropical storm watch and small craft advisories were in effect for the North Carolina coast.
