GREENVILLE, S.C. (October 15, 2009)--A South Carolina woman whom Target wrongly accused of using a fake $100 bill has settled a lawsuit with the retailer.
Rita Cantrell said a Target employee sent her name and picture to businesses and claimed she tried to use counterfeit money, but Secret Service agents determined that the bill Cantrell used in 2006 wasn't a fake.
Cantrell sued Target and a jury awarded her $3.1 million a year ago, in part for the humiliation she says she suffered.
Target appealed.
Cantrell’s attorney said Thursday the suit had been settled.
He would not release the amount of the settlement and a Target spokesman didn't immediately return a telephone message.
