BLACKSBURG, Va. (November 8, 2009)--Virginia Tech administrators are advising Pentagon officials on how to respond to the mass shooting at Fort Hood.

University spokesman Mark Owczarski said the school's president and about a dozen administrators had a teleconference with military officials Friday.

He said Pentagon officials asked for guidance on how to respond to the shooting spree at the Texas military base.

The discussion ranged from how to help victims' families to accommodating large numbers of news media.

Virginia Tech dealt with the worst mass shooting in modern U.S history in April 2007.

The campus shootings left 33 dead, including the student gunman, and about two dozen injured.

Virginia Tech also is where the suspected Fort Hood gunman Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan received his undergraduate degree.
