WYTHEVILLE, Va. (December 24, 2009)--Authorities don't yet have a motive after a daylong hostage drama that played out Wednesday in a small-town Virginia post office.

Police say the standoff ended peacefully after the three hostages were set free and the disabled suspect surrendered.

According to state police, the suspect, Warren "Gator" Taylor of Sullivan County, Tenn., has an artificial leg and was in a wheelchair.

The standoff began at about 2:30 p.m. when shots were fired in the one-story brick building in the mountain town of Wytheville, in western Virginia.

No one was injured, and at least two of the hostages were able to call family or friends.

After 8 1/2 hours of negotiations, the hostages and Taylor emerged from the building after authorities using a bullhorn yelled, "Come out with your hands up."

Little is known about the suspect, not even his age.

Authorities don't know for sure if he had a military background, although there were reports he was a former Marine.

Officials say the suspect made no demands other than to ask for a pizza.
