(June 26, 2007)--A key Republican backer of President Bush is saying it's time for some changes in Iraq policy.
Indiana Senator Richard Lugar says that Mr. Bush's Iraq strategy is not working and that the US should downsize the military's role.
The unusually blunt assessment comes as a surprise.
Most Republicans have said they were willing to wait until September to see if Mr. Bush's recently ordered troop buildup in Iraq was working.
