CINCINNATI (July 15, 2010)--Former church daycare Pamela Hartley has been sentenced in Cincinnati to time in jail for slipping a dietary supplement into candy she gave to children to get them to sleep.
Hartley was convicted of three counts of child endangering and three counts of misrepresentation by a childcare provider and was sentenced to six months, but all but 30 days of the sentence was suspended.
She also faces three years' probation.
Hartley gave melatonin to children at the suburban church day care so her job would be easier.
She was ordered never to work as a childcare provider again.

She deserved what she got. You don't give kids anything to make them sleep just bc you are too lazy to take care of them properly!

Pam Hartley has been my best friend for over 25 years. She has never intentionally hurt anyone in her life; she has always loved & cared for children as if they were her own(I know because my child was one under her care several years ago). If I had a young child now I would not hesitate to place my child in her care. Melatonin is an herbal supplement that has been used for centuries & has never been found to be harmful to anyone or anything. The sentencing was outrageous, she has already paid a very high price: she lost the job she loved,& now has been banned from ever again working with children plus 3 years probation. Because of the sentencing she will loose her current job(no children involved)& become a burden of the state. Judge Powers does jail time really make sense? Do you really think that you have judged this case fairly? Judge Powers how do you fall aseep at night?
