(January 22, 2013)-A $1.3 million grant awarded by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) will give nearly 1,000 Texans more specialized job training.

National Oilwell Varco and BAUER Manufacturing Inc. have partnered with Lone Star College to provide the job training.

The grant will be used to provide training in machining, safety, logistics and lean process, which will result in more efficient operations, enhanced employee skills, and improvements in safety, production and employee retention, a spokesperson for the TWC said.

Upon completion the trainees will earn an average hourly wage of $20.64.
