Dupont has just released its 2008 Color Popularity chart for vehicles sold in North America during model year 2008. The once hot-selling silver shade has slid to number three behind black and the new top-of-the-heap shade white. In fact 20 percent of all cars sold in North America last year were some shade of white.
Rounding out the top five are blue and grey. Red comes in sixth with roughly 11% of total vehicle sales, followed by beige, green, then gold and yellow.
The same pattern repeats itself globally with shades of black, silver, white, and grey vying for top sales spots at different points all over the world. In Korea roughly 50% of all new cars sold are painted some shade of silver. In China, bucking the mellow trend, orange is on the rise in popularity. Even though it only accounts for three percent of total vehicle sales, that number is higher than in any other part of the world.
