LAREDO (July 6, 2012)--Federal agents seized a commercial shipment of counterfeit Swiss designer watches last month that officials value at a total of more than $28 million.
A statement from U.S. Customs and Border Protection Friday said a CBP import specialist discovered the watches on June 29 at the World Trade Bridge between Laredo and Nuevo Laredo.
Agents seized 38 boxes containing 4,200 counterfeit Audemars Piguet and Louis Arden watches the agency values at $28.7 million.
CBP's Laredo port director Sidney Aki called the seizure one of the highest valued in terms of manufacturer's suggested retail price in the port's history.
