Fired Texas Banker Sentenced For Embezzlement

HOUSTON (September 9, 2013)—Former Houston banker Hannah Gonzales, 24, has been sentenced to two years in federal prison for stealing $124,000 mainly from elderly or out-of-state customers, prosecutors announced Monday.

Gonzales also must make $55,000 in restitution, prosecutors said.

Gonzales, the former assistant manager of an International Bank of Commerce branch, was arrested in January and pleaded guilty in June to embezzlement.

Investigators say the Houston woman stole money beginning in 2010 from accounts of people not likely to be stopping by the bank or customers who did not live in Texas.

Some cash was stolen from teller boxes while other money was taken from customer accounts.

Gonzales was fired in July 2011 after an audit revealed the missing funds.
