Geico To Add As Many As 1,000 Jobs In Texas

HOUSTON (December 3, 2013) Geico plans to open an insurance claims center in suburban Houston that will employ up to 1,000 people.

The company says the positions will range from entry-level to what Geico describes as "fast-track management" jobs.

Geico plans to invest $8.5 million in improvements to an office center in Katy, west of Houston, and phase in the jobs over three years.

Geico already employs 2,200 people in Texas, mostly in the regional hub of Dallas-Fort Worth.

The company was founded in Fort Worth in 1936, although it has been part of Warren Buffett's Omaha, Neb.-based Berkshire Hathaway for the past 17 years.

Geico has more than 830,000 policyholders in Texas and claims to be the sixth-largest private auto insurer in the state.
