“Gift of a Job " Program Offers Local Shoppers a Way to Give Back.

WACO (December 19, 2012)--Heart of Texas Goodwill Industries is hoping to cash in on the goodwill of the season through a new program aimed at getting customers in its thrift stores to donate one dollar to help teach struggling residents job skills.

Thrift store customers can donate $1 toward the program which offers computer classes, interview clothing, and other services for people looking for work.

This is especially important because starting this January three computer classes that are free right now will charge a fee.

These classes teach basic database management, Word and Excel 2007, and Workplace computer skills, which also offer continuing education credits through McLennan Community College.

The program will offer scholarships to those who cannot afford the fee, no matter how small.

“We just wanted to give people an opportunity to also continue to give back and we love when people shop in our stores. So, this gives them an opportunity to help fund someone in a very real and concrete way,” HOT. Learning Center Coordinator, Meghan Holder said.

Customers who make donations get a piece of paper with their name on it to hang on the Christmas tree in the thrift store.
