AUSTIN (May 17, 2013)--Nearly $800 million is on the line for lottery players this weekend.
The jackpot for Friday night’s Mega Millions drawing is $190 million and the jackpot for Saturday’s Powerball drawing stands at $600 million, the largest in Powerball history and the second biggest ever in the U.S.
Lottery officials say the Powerball prize was growing quickly Friday because so many people have been purchasing the $2 tickets.
The jackpot has grown by an estimated $236 million since the last drawing on Wednesday.
The last jackpot was won on March 30, so the prize has been growing for about six weeks.
If there's no winner Saturday, the Powerball jackpot would roll to more than $900 million.
The largest jackpot ever was a $656 million Mega Millions prize won in March 2012.
The jackpot was split three ways between winners in Illinois, Kansas and Maryland.
Odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are about 1 in 175 million.
