NEW YORK (September 26, 2012)--Stocks ended the day lower Wednesday on Wall Street and it’s the first five-day losing streak for the Standard & Poor's 500 index since July.
A mixed report on the U.S. housing market conspired with unrest in Europe to pull U.S. stocks down.
The Dow Jones industrial average finished the day down 44 points at 13,414.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index fell eight to close at 1,433.
The Nasdaq composite index dropped 24 to end the day at 3,094.
Declining stocks outnumbered advancers by about 3-to-2.
Early figures show volume was about average, 3.6 billion shares traded.
