Stocks Post Modest Gains On Eve Of Election

NEW YORK (November 5, 2012)--The Dow Jones industrial average ended election eve up 19 points at 13,112.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index finished the day up three at 1,417 Monday and the Nasdaq composite index climbed 17 to close at a hair under 3,000.

A managing director at the brokerage Charles Schwab says the markets are marking time, waiting for the election result.

Among individual stocks, Time Warner Cable lost more than 6 percent after posting earnings that fell short of analyst predictions.

Advancing stocks beat decliners, but just barely and trading volume was light, at about 2.9 billion shares.
