NEW YORK (October 22, 2012)--A late buying spree erased early losses Monday on Wall Street, leaving indexes with modest gains at the close of trading.
The Dow Jones industrial average came back from a 108-point deficit to end the day up two points at 13,346 on Monday.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index closed up less than a point at 1,434.
The Nasdaq composite index ended the day with a gain of 11 points at 3,017.
Stocks spent much of the day lower after a disappointing batch of earnings reports from companies including Hasbro, clothing maker VF Corp. and SunTrust banks.
Falling stocks slightly outnumbered rising ones on the New York Stock Exchange where volume was in line with the recent average, 3.2 billion shares.
