GLORIETA, N.M. (September 6, 2013)--A couple that lives in the faith-based community at a northern New Mexico conference center has filed a federal lawsuit in an attempt to block the sale of the 2,000-acre Baptist-affiliated campus to a Texas group.
Kirk and Susie Tompkins of Little Rock, Ark., filed the lawsuit to prevent the sale of the Glorieta Conference Center.
According to the lawsuit, the couple says the center's current operator, LifeWay Christian Resources of Nashville, Tenn., can't sell the acreage because it really belongs to the Executive Committee of the Southern Baptist Convention.
LifeWay is an arm of the Southern Baptist Convention.
The Texas-based Glorieta 2.0 paid only a dollar to acquire the Glorieta center from LifeWay earlier this year.
