Texas Sales Tax Holiday Scheduled

AUSTIN (July 11, 2013)--The annual Texas sales tax holiday weekend has been set for Aug. 9 through Aug. 11 as families prepare to send children back to school and Comptroller Susan Combs says shoppers can save money on certain items costing less than $100.

The law exempts most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks priced under $100 from sales tax, which could mean savings of about $8 on every $100 spent, with some exceptions.

Combs estimates shoppers will save more than $74 million in state and local sales taxes during the second weekend of August.

The Texas sales tax holiday weekend has been an annual event since 1999.
