LOCKHART (September 24, 2012)—Business leaders in Lockhart have high hopes for the impact of what will soon be the nation's fastest speed limit on Texas Highway 130.
The new stretch of Texas Highway 130, which runs several miles east of the increasingly crowded Interstate 35 corridor between Austin and San Antonio, will have an 85 mile per hour speed limit when it opens this fall.
Leaders in Lockhart, about 30 miles south of Austin, say they believe the expanded toll road will bring in development and jobs.
The officials want their town to be known for more than just good barbeque.
But other areas along existing parts of Texas 130 remain undeveloped years after the highway opened.
