LOS ANGELES (September 3, 2013)--Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick, Jr. will join Keith Urban as "American Idol" judges next season, Fox TV announced Tuesday.
Fox also announced a new role for original judge Randy Jackson, who stepped down as a panelist after last season.
He will serve as in-house mentor to the show's contestants.
Pop star and actress Lopez is returning to the show after a two-season run as judge.
Connick, a respected jazz singer and musician, proved adept as a mentor in several appearances on the singing contest.
Urban's return for a second year of judging was previously announced.
"American Idol" begins its 13th season in January.
