Documentary About South Korean Pastor Wins Prize At Texas Film Festival

SAN ANTIONIO (February 11, 2013)—“The Drop Box,” a documentary about a South Korean pastor who rescues disabled babies, won the $101,000 grand prize at the San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival.

"The Drop Box," by filmmaker Brian Ivie, 22, tells the story of Pastor Lee Jong-rak, whose small church in Seoul has accepted dozens of unwanted children.

The documentary describes how Lee built a drop box in the wall of his home with a note that reads, "If you can't take care of your disabled babies, don't throw them away or leave them on the street. Bring them here."

Accepting the prize Saturday evening, Ivie promised to "steward this investment."

He said he would rather tell "the plainest truth with $100,000 than the most sophisticated technological lie with $10 million or $100 million."

Christian filmmaker Stephen Kendrick, whose movie "Courageous" won last year's grand prize, helped judge this year's festival entries.

He said that after viewing "The Drop Box," the judges agreed that "this is of God."
