LOS ANGELES (December 10, 2012)—Ed Cassidy, the drummer for the band Spirit has died of cancer at the age of 89.

The Los Angeles Times reports Cassidy died Thursday.

Spirit is probably best known for the 1969 hit "I Got A Line On You."

Cassidy was an unusual rock star.

He shaved his head at a time when nobody was doing that, earning the nickname "Mr. Skin."

He was also significantly older than the rest of the band.

When "I Got A Line On You" was released he was 46.

His stepson, Randy California, played guitar in Spirit, and the entire band lived together for a period.
