NEW YORK (May 8, 2013)--Carrie Underwood is taking on the job of pumping up "Sunday Night Football" audiences.
NBC says Underwood will sing a new version of "Waiting All Day for Sunday Night."
Faith Hill performed it for seven seasons, but told NBC in February she would not be back for an eighth.
Producer Fred Gaudelli says Underwood is the only singer he pursued as a replacement.
Underwood says she watched Hill sing the song every week and she thought it would be something fun to do.
The lyrics will be the same, but Underwood will do it in her style.
The first Sunday night game pits the Giants against the Cowboys on Sept. 8.
