LOS ANGELES (June 27, 2013)--Rocker Melissa Etheridge is celebrating the Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage by getting married.
The singer heralded the court's rulings on challenges to the federal Defense of Marriage Act and California’s ban on same-sex marriage by announcing her engagement.
She said she is looking forward to exercising her rights as an American by "getting fully, completely and legally married this year."
Her intended is Linda Wallem, whom Etheridge describes as her "true love of over three years."
Other singers who went online to hail the Supreme Court ruling Wednesday including Lady Gaga, who says prejudiced people "are now the minority" and Alicia Keys who declared she was "standing on the right side of history."
Others posting messages of support were Cyndi Lauper and Kelly Clarkson.
