HOUSTON (November 12, 2013) Efrem Holmes, singer Patti LaBelle's bodyguard, has been acquitted of an assault charge in Houston.
A jury acquitted Holmes in a 2011 confrontation with a drunken man at a Houston airport terminal.
Trial evidence indicated Richard King had a blood-alcohol level nearly three and a half times above the legal limit in Texas and didn't remember what happened the day of the incident.
Surveillance video and trial testimony suggested that King approached LaBelle and verbally abused the performer when her son tried to block his way.
King punched the son and Holmes stepped in and slugged King several times.
LaBelle filed a countersuit in the case.
