NASHVILLE, Tenn. (January 4, 2013)--Taylor Swift would have the top album from last year if it weren’t for Adele, who’s “21” dominated sales for a second straight year in 2012.

Swift’s project "Red" finished second on the list of top-sellers put out by Nielsen SoundScan.

She moved 3.1 million copies of her album in 2012, a solid total, but still more than a million copies behind Adele's "21."

Five country artists were in the top 10 in album sales last year, and Nielsen SoundScan says that's a record for the genre.
