NEW YORK (June 26, 2012)--A teenager from California with a flair for funny songs and another from Florida who sang two tough operatic tunes won top honors at the National High School Musical Theater Awards.
The best actress award went to Elizabeth Romero, 18, from Fullerton, Calif., and Joshua Grosso, 18, of Tampa, Fla., received the best actor crown at the fourth annual competition in New York.
The both received $10,000 scholarships.
Drew Shafranek of Irving was among the four runners-up.
He received $2,500.
The so-called Jimmy Awards are after theater owner James Nederlander.
