CLEVELAND (April 17, 2013)—To mark the 75th anniversary of Superman, Cleveland’s mayor will proclaim Thursday Superman Day and the city will give out birthday cake at the Superman display at the airport.
Superman collaborators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster lived several blocks apart in Cleveland’s Glenville neighborhood, which shaped their dreams and Superman imagery.
Superman first appeared in Action Comics No. 1 published April 18, 1938.
Siegel's daughter, Laura Siegel Larson, says Cleveland's library, tough streets, comic pages and high school mentors all nurtured his imagination.
