(October 26, 2007)--A prominent social conservative is urging Texans to vote against a $3 billion bond proposal for cancer research.
Cathie Adams, president of the Texas Eagle Forum, says money could be used for embryonic stem cell testing.
The proposed constitutional amendment is called Proposition 15 and its goal is finding cures for cancer.
Backers of the proposition say Adams' fears are unfounded.
However, some Prop 15 supporters agree that Texas law does not explicitly forbid using state money for embryonic stem cell research.
It had wide bipartisan backing in the Texas Legislature.
Supporters include Republican Gov. Rick Perry, former Democratic Comptroller John Sharp, cycling champion Lance Armstrong and the American Cancer Society.
