Six Bryan police officers were placed on routine administrative leave Monday after a deadly shooting outside a restaurant after an attempted robbery.
The officers were dispatched just before 10 p.m. Sunday to the Taqueria Arandas Mexican Restaurant on Texas Avenue in Bryan after the restaurant manager called 911 to report a robbery.
Police arrived as two robbers with guns in their hands came out of the building, holding one of the restaurant’s employees hostage.
Officers fired and hit both of the robbers, killing one and wounding the other.
The injured suspect was in serious condition Monday afternoon.
The gunmen shot the hostage, 38-year-old Santo Reyes, in the arm, police said.
Initial reports indicated he was struck by one of the shots fired by the officers.
He was listed in fair condition Monday afternoon at St. Joseph Regional Health Center.
Three other employees were also held hostage.
Two were assaulted by the robbers and required hospital treatment.
