Local City Manager Resigns Save Email Print

(November 28, 2007)—Marlin City Manager Randall Holly resigned Wednesday, saying a majority of members of Marlin’s City Council have stymied his efforts to attract new businesses and new jobs to the Falls County community.

The issue bubbled to the surface earlier this month, after Kosse-based RTLC Piping Products, Inc abandoned plans to expand its operations into Marlin, where it had hoped to build a branch facility that would have employed about 100 workers.

The company ranks among the leading manufacturers of large-diameter steel pipe in the U.S.

In a letter obtained by News Ten, RTLC President Billy Terrell said, “a move into an adversarial climate such as exists in South Marlin would not be beneficial to RTLC.”

Holly was working with the company, which wanted to negotiate the purchase of a tract of city-owned land in south Marlin to build a plant.

But petitions began to circulate in nearby neighborhoods in opposition to the plant, which some city officials conceded would have been a shot in the arm to the town’s struggling economy.

“Investing millions of dollars into a neighborhood and having to fight with the other residents is not good business,” Terrell wrote.

“There are other communities in the area offering better plant sites and a pro business attitude that would be much better for our operation,” he said.

Instead of implying "certain members" of the City Council are the "root" of the problem, why won't someone NAME them and state WHY they are the problem. That would give us as citizens and voters more to go on when chosing new City Council members!

It doesnt matter who we get as city manager the council will run who ever off unless they agree with them .So in order to have a good city council we have to get ride of the ones we have a start over again or Marlin will never grow or have any kind of future only for the drugs dealers and the drug heads in this town if we had more jobs that people could get to than maybe we wouldnt have all the steeling and wrongfullness that goes on in this town that the city council closes the eyes to and they dont hear cause they dont want to We really need improvement in this town are we will be a ghost town for sure people are moving out cause there is alote and I mean alot of drugs and the schools are so bad not because of the water we can deal with the water . All I know is they have lost a good man all because he didnt agree with them thats the final thang.

I have a few thangs to say to this Our City council members have to much power we have to get them all out and start over again. I have to say that to bring a company in fow green card thats a no and for the convicts well if they have done their time everyone deserve a chance Thats why there so much drugs in Marlin and drug dealing no jobs no way to get to waco and other places so the they deal. NO NO sex offenders at all... If it true on what being said about RTLC. We dont want to bring other people in for the jobs of Marlin we need them for the ones in Marlin come on people

A sad day for the caring people of marlin. A sad day for the people that wants marlin to grow. Good luck Randy Holle, at least you really tried!

Unfortunatly this is a two sided story and only one side is being given. Marlin does need the growth but also RTLC jobs are not well paying jobs (most min. wage) and the majority of workers at their current plant are "green card" residents from Mexia, not Marlin. The company has been under illegal hiring investigations in the past. They also employ many ex convicts, registed sex offenders that would not be good to have around neighborhoods with children. The turn over ratio is extremely high with numerous TWC complaints by workers against them. Marlin needs a company that has a better reputation and more average paying jobs to bring it out of a wellfare city.

I had the opportunity to meet Mr. Holly and was impressed with his professionalism and his friendliness. He also seemed passionate about improving things in the city of Marlin. The city is losing a good man.

I am very disappointed that City Manager Randy Holle has resigned I have prayed every night for him and the city of Marlin. We really needed Randy Holle and I personally was behind him in all that he was trying to accomplish. But unfortunally we have a very hostile environment on the City Council. Makes someone wish they didn't have property in Marlin. Still praying that God will work a miracle in Marlin and God knows we need one.
