Bell Helicopter Layoffs Expected

(January 29, 2008)--Bell Helicopter is planning layoffs.

But a spokesman said Tuesday the company is still determining how many workers will lose their jobs and when.

The Fort Worth-based company last week announced it would lay off less than five percent of its work force, but didn't provide details.

Bell Helicopter has about 10,000 employees worldwide, with about 6,000 of those in the Fort Worth area.

Bell spokesman Mike Cox says most layoffs are expected in the Fort Worth area.

Company president Richard Millman says Bell Helicopter must undergo some changes in the short term to prepare for the long-term future.

Bell Helicopter's parent company is Rhode Island-based Textron.
