State Voter Identifications Likely Save Email Print

A | A | A

(April 29, 2008)—Republican Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst hailed a Supreme Court ruling that approves states' efforts to pass a voter identification law.

He said Monday he looks forward to passing such a measure when the legislature meets again next year.

The ruling galvanizes a Republican-inspired effort that Democrats say will keep some poor, older and minority voters from casting ballots.

Efforts to pass a voter ID bill last year divided the Legislature along partisan lines.

The measure, which would have required voters to present a photo ID, ultimately failed in a bitter Senate stalemate.

Democratic Sen. Mario Gallegos of Houston called voter identification requirements "legal discrimination."

There is nothing wrong with having to provide identification to vote, it might even make the process of registration at the voting booth go faster than going through those big books; just scan the back of the drivers license like it is done when you apply for a hunting/fishing license, all the information is there. Besides all the bull that the Democrats are pulling, this stops the precious illegal population from voting unless a certain senator running for president has her way and allows the illegals to have a drivers license providing a means for those that are allowed the right as a citizen to vote.

Voting is a privledge. Leave it to the mexicrats to holler discrimination. (note senators name from Houston) Anything for a vote, legal or not. Do they not have to show ID to get their welfare check, or SS check, or other hand outs? It is just discrimination when asking for ID to vote but not those? Give me a break..
